Tom, you are right about the “what time it’s NOT”! I never thought of it that way. One more thought — even a broken watch is right TWICE a day… right???

Hasn’t the cell phone officially replaced the watch and the calendar and even the atomic clock at this point? It now commands the universe.

I’ve always felt people never checked their watch to see what time it is anyways. They look to see what time it is NOT. For example, if I have a 2:00 meeting, I am looking at the watch to make sure it is not yet 2:00, but never do fully process what time it actually is.

Test this. Next time you see someone look at their watch, ask them what time it is. Dollars to donuts, they will have to look at it again in order to answer.

Can’t weigh in on this without having fruit thrown at me….so I’ll say “hi, Jane” *waves at you* I’m sure that whatever time you show up that people are overjoyed at seeing you….

You know me – there has only maybe been a few occasions that I ever wore a watch. Mostly, by the charm of the universe I manage to be on time. Now that I’m cell phone equipped, I actually miss asking ppl for the time. As long as I get some Jane time I’m GTG (good-to-go); yippee happy joy joy, so apologies are never required! Feel free however to make me laugh with funny made up stories explaining lateness.

Hmmm, come to think of it, we were both late to coffee; I was just one minute less late than you. But your hair looked better. That said, charm and wit often work wonders in cases of tardiness. I had elevated it to a science (and still summon it up in a pinch).
Funny thing, I did not happen to mention being six days late with a post…

I don’t remember when I stopped wearing a watch, but I think I decided that it was easier to explain myself if I didn’t appear to have any way of knowing what time it is.

Nonetheless, I am CONSTANTLY stressed about being late. You would think that since it is my normal state, I’d get used to it. Handle it with grace and a perfect rolls-off-the-tongue-apology-explanation. But no. I fumble. I stutter. I dream up excellent stories to explain my tardiness that no one believes for a minute on the theory that if I can make them laugh, they’ll forgive me better.
